3 Sixes / Autumn Meeting Medal
Most of the ladies made heavy going of the late September sunshine combined with a blustery wind resulting in a reduction only round (for handicapping purposes).
After a few weeks’ absence, Sonia Inniss returned in winning form with a net 74, to beat Sheena Harrington by one shot, with another welcome returner, Louise Williams, just one further shot back on 76.
Hot off the press and showing us all the way to play was Val Riziotis who qualified for the final of the NAPGC Stableford at St. Andrews today. Playing off her newly reduced handicap of 20, Val recorded a brilliant 36 points to win the overall net runner-up prize. Huge congratulations to Val for a magnificent result!
This innovative format saw some good play and plenty of sweep winners
For the first 6 holes, the format was stableford with Jim Fogarty clinching victory with 16 points, one ahead of Joe Keating with Graeme Syme a further point behind.
The second 6 were bogey and Secretary Peter Harrington shrugged off this difficult format to win finishing 3 up. Commendable performances from Paul McConnell and Graeme Syme earned runner up positions.
The last 6 were medal with Paul McConnell emerging the winner on 17.33, just ahead of Itasawat. One and one third shot adrift were Steve Cross, Brett Colley and Nick Rogers.
The Charity Cup winner was in-form Tom Chase with 44 points, two ahead of Tony Kopczak. Flying the flag for the ladies in 3rd position was Val Riziotis with 41 points Val had two 4 pointers – the SI par 4 7th with regulation par and the par 5 18th with birdie.
Ladies Weekend Away
Congratulations to Veronica Mitchell for capturing the Gill Hibbs Trophy.
Unfortunately the heavy rain arrived as forecast and certainly put a damper on the scores in today’s medal. There was only a small entry of 5 ladies, while a number of others were playing in matches. Sheena emerged as the winner with a net 78, recording some 16 shots more than in last month’s win! Doreen was one shot behind on a net 79. This was a reduction only round!
The September medal was won by Graeme Syme with a creditable 66, one ahead of John Morris and two from Peter Harrington and Kerry Sargeant.
In the related Grand Medal Trophy Toby Hunt and Graeme Syme are now tied on 343, six clear of Danny Deprez.
Autumn Mixed Foursomes
Shaun Feldon and Kate Emanuel won the scratch trophy on 81, four clear from Sheena Harrington and Michael Hansler. Shaun and Kate also won the net trophy with 70, two clear from Alison Chadwick and Jon Cooper.
The final hole was memorable with 12 players teeing off Shaun flicked a little metal wood to leave Kate to tap in (4 feet) for birdie. Well done to Shaun and Kate for some splendid golf.
