In a complete contrast with last week’s weather, today’s competition was held in glorious sunshine and excellent visibility, although the wind and speed of the greens made it a tricky day.
The winner of the champagne for the ladies was Jayne Maxwell with 36 points, she was followed by Lia Donath on 33 points and Veronica Mitchell was third with 31 points.
In what has become a bit of a tradition, the ladies again provided mulled wine for everyone after the round.
The Champagne Chase was won by Simon Hay on 43 points, just one ahead of Nigel Ward, Jon ‘Top Dog’ Cooper and Rowley Barrett. Peter Harrington put in a good end of season performance, finishing 5th with 41 with back to back birdies at 12 & 13.
Winter Comp Rd 2 / Dukes Eclectic Rd 1
With visibility limited to about 75 yards for the whole round, conditions suited the Lady Captain, Susan Smith, who scored a very impressive 40 points to win today’s Stableford competition. It didn’t suit the rest of the field quite so well, although both Lia Donath and Val Riziotis came in with 34 points to take 2nd & 3rd places respectively.
As might be expected Susan is also the first round leader in the Eclectic, with Lia and Val again in 2nd and 3rd places.
In the 2nd Winter Competition round, Itsawat excelled in the fog with 46 points on Duke’s with Rowley Barrett 2nd on 42 and James Cowling 3rd with 41. Nigel Ward scored an eagle on 11th, witnessed by Secretary Peter Harrington from 7th.
As might be expected, Itsawat leads the Winter Competition by 4 points from Kerry Sargeant.
Itsawat also leads the Duke’s Eclectic by 2 from Kerry and James.

Winter Comp Rd 1 / Princes Eclectic Rd 1
The amazingly mild and sunny conditions of Remembrance Sunday just served to confound the ladies, with the first round of the Princes’ Eclectic leaving plenty of room for improvement in the subsequent rounds!
The winner of today’s stableford was Nina Humphreys with a score of 31, followed on 29 points by Jayne Maxwell. It was a reduction only round.
Round 1 of the Winter Competition saw a cluster of 37s posted in the clubhouse from early games, but Nick Rogers romped home to victory with 39 points from Toby Hunt, Kerry Sargeant, Julian James and Richard Owen.
Conditions were balmy for mid November with T shirts being the appropriate attire mid-round.
In the associated Prince’s Eclectic, Kerry emerged the early leader on 71, three ahead of Toby.
Monthly Medal / Team Event
November marks the start of the ladies’ team events rather than winter medals. Today’s event was best score on par 5s, 2 scores on par 4s and 3 scores on par 3s.
Only 8 ladies played on the first chilly day of winter rules. Kate, Lia, Maureen & Suzanne comfortably beat Inge, Jini, Molly & Sheena by 7 points.
A tidy 68 from Paul Appleton won the November Medal, one ahead of Tony Kopczak.
