North Downs GC Away Day
Twenty five members and guests braved the weather on the Club’s latest away day.
Scoring was lower than might have been expected, but the highlight was undoubtedly Stan Pott’s hole in one at the 14th. Well done Stan!!
It is believed this is the first in an RPGC competition this year Ian Smith aced at Duke’s 16th on a match play knockout.
The 5 points arising helped Stan and partner Lee Eden to claim the trophy on the back 9 from Stuart Nash and Jim Fogarty.
Tracy Wright clinched the October medal with a net 69, three shots clear of Maureen Slade in 2nd.
Martin Wright squeezed Julian Ratnage on the back 9 to claim victory. Both shot highly commendable 63s. New member Nick Heale finished third with 66.
CSS was unchanged from SSS of 67.Men’s handicap list…
The handicap secretary’s office was impressed with a run of five 3’s from Bruce Cuff and an eagle for the handicap secretary at 15. Bruce’s one over par 70 was enough to take the Grand Medal Trophy, two ahead of Paul Appleton, Martin Wright and Geoff Foreman. Congratulations to Bruce on his achievement, and taking just the minimum 5 rounds to win.
Autumn Meeting Medal Round, Committee Cup & Barton Bowl Playoffs
In the first part of the Autumn Meeting, the individual medal round, Veronica Mitchell was triumphant with a net 70, six shots clear of Lorna White in second. Julie Smith took the best front 9 (net 37½) and Maureen Slade the best back 9 (net 34).
The first part of the Autumn Meeting is also the second round of the Committee Cup. Though each round was well supported, only 3 ladies played in both rounds! Sheena Harrington held on to a slender lead to take 1st place with 63 stableford points aggregate from Julie Smith (60 pts).
The play-off for the Barton Bowl was also played on 2nd October so Veronica Mitchell was again triumphant with 38 pts from Julie Smith in 2nd (30 pts).
Competitors played the team and individual events simultaneously. The winner of the individual event by a margin of 4 points was Bruce Cuff with an exemplary 2 under par 39 points.
In the team event, Dave Williams, Nick Heale, Chris Wisely and Vic Wadley were victorious with 76 points. Back in the clubhouse, many teams confessed that their yellow ball ‘blobbed’.
Almost a Qualifier for Reduction Only round (one % point due to Dave Williams’ 35), CSS was 3 lower than SSS 36.Men’s handicap list…
