In the 3 club and a putter Lissaman Cup which has had a tradition of stormy weather but low scores, Toby Hunt was the clear winner on 65, two ahead of Darrin Siiankowski.
The Silver Jubilee was won by Tony Kopczak with a fine 65. 3 behind was Danny Deprez. The highlight of Danny’s round was his first hole in one at the ninth. Well done Danny!
In the associated Anniversary Trophy, Paul McConnell’s 71 was good enough to pip Toby Hunt by one shot on the day and emerge the deserved winner with a 3 round total of 206.
Captain v Secretary
The ladies Captain v Secretary competition was a 5-a-side affair. The Lady Captain, Susan Smith, was in determined mood scoring 37 points for her own team including a birdie on the 7th hole which netted her 5 points! Unfortunately the rest of her team (Val Riziotis, Nina Humphries, Maureen Slade and Julie Smyth) didn’t fare so well and the Lady Secretary’s (Cheryl Woodhouse) team won by 5 points with Anne scoring a great 39 points.
The winning team was Cheryl, Anne Holding-Parsons, Lia Donath, Sheena Harrington & Joan Mulcahy.
Autumnal fog greeted players for the innovative President’s v Captain’s competition and early games couldn’t see far for the first few holes.
Scoring was remarkably good and Stuart Nash put in a vintage performance of 44 points to win the individual event. One point behind was Hans Koppelan with Paul McConnell third on 41. In the team event, Peter Harrington lead from the back to clinch the match with average 33.40 points from Gurpal’s team average of 32.59.
Lia Donath & Nick Rogers prevailed.
The last monthly medal of 2011 was contested by one of the larger turnouts of the year, with 5 full ladies’ games in action. The winner with a net 72 was Jayne Maxwell, closely followed by Kate Emanuel, Carrie Ward and Val Riziotis all on net 73s.
The final of the Barton Bowl was also played in conjunction with the medal, and Jayne was also the winner in this event.
Itsawat secured the October Medal with a 67, one ahead of Tony McCullagh and Graeme Syme.
Graeme’s score improved his Grand Medal Trophy total to win on 339 points, four ahead of arch-rival Toby Hunt.
The club fell to a loss in the first ever friendly at Wimbledon Common.
Wimbledon Common Ladies
We played our first friendly against Wimbledon Common on their course. A novel but enjoyable experience, wearing red and sharing the course with numerous dog walkers and runners. We lost 3½-½ and hope to do better when they visit us at home next year.
Burgess Cup / Autumn Meeting Better Ball
With a great turn out for round two of the Autumn Meeting there was some stiff competition. Julie Smyth and Lorna White took the first prize edging ahead of Veronica Mitchell and Kate Emanuel on count back. In third place were Lia Donath and Sarah Long, again another placing on count back nudging Louise Williams and Sonia Inniss into fourth place.
We were lucky to enjoy perfect summer conditions – probably the last of the season.
The Burgess Cup was hotly contested and on a count-back the pairing of Rick Smith and Danny Deprez were the winners on a commendable 43 points from Anthony Tama and Nigel Gaymond. Third and fourth place also had same points – 40 with Julian James & Tony Koczak piping Jon Cooper and Kerry Sargeant.
