Summer Cup

Ladies

Another unseasonably cold and windy day (at least in this reporter's view) resulted in winter-like scoring with the exception of Veronica Mitchell, who obviously enjoyed the day, romping into an 8 shot lead for the first round of the Committee Cup with 38 points. In second place, and with much to do in round 2 to catch Veronica, is Doreen Dolby on 30 points, with Lia Donath and Joan Mulcahy 1 further shot behind. Results...

Monthly Medal

Ladies

With the return of winter like conditions came a reduction only (QRO) round for the ladies, which was also rather unfortunately the qualifying round for the NAPGC medal competition.

Only three gross scores below a 100 were recorded, with the lowest also giving Jayne Maxwell the best net to win the May monthly medal with a net 78. The only other lady to achieve a net score in the 70s was Maureen Slade on net 79 to make her the runner-up. Results...

Men

Paul Cook secured another victory with a net 70 on a day where most found it difficult to score. Paul is now cut to a Category 1 player – well done Paul. Three 71s battled for second place with Cuneyt Sazer winning on count back from Toby Hunt and Matt Mandelbaum. Results...

Sweep

Average spring conditions without sunshine allowed competitors to focus on golf, but many found the greens tricky.

Monthly Medal

Ladies

Playing the first medal round of the year off the grass tees appeared something of a challenge to most of the ladies, or perhaps it was the result of being back to our summer slots and the games being very late out.

Kate Emanuel kept up her good form of the last few weeks, but could only manage third place this week on a net 74.  Julie Smyth is this month's medal winner with a net 71, followed one shot behind by Lia Donath on a net 73. Results...

Men

Scoring a net 65, Graeme Syme was this month's medal winner by one shot from Aidan Hurley, Roger Darkins and Lee Eden on net 66's. This was the first medal round of the year off the back tees and the CSS remained at 70. Results...

Five birdies were recorded - Roger Darkins and Graeme Syme on the 3rd, Kerry Sargeant on the 10th and Peter Harrington & Graeme Syme on the 13th.

April Fool's Day was in evidence with the competition entry being 25p short in one envelope and £10 over in the other! It would be much easier for the competition secretary if you could resist the temptation to get rid of shrapnel in the envelope and stick to £1/£2 coins.

Sweep

Rumour has it that the game was played off the grass tees for the first time this year and in glorious unseasonal sunshine and temperatures.

With quite a number of absentees due to the weekend away in Tewkesbury, there was a fairly small field but a close result. Three players scored 38 points, with Mark Scott emerging the winner, having a better back 9 than Steve Cross and John Ahad in second and third place respectively. Results...

Spring Stableford RD1 / Spring Meeting Rd1

Ladies

On an unlikely March day which was gloriously warm and sunny (somewhat different to a week ago), 17 ladies contested the medal round for the Spring Meeting.

Kate Emanuel was the winner with a net 71, attributing her baby bump to keeping her more grounded! In second place, two shots behind with a net 73 was Anne Holding-Parsons. There were three birdies recorded today, Kate on the 1st, Julie Smyth on the 3rd and Lia Donath on the 9th. Results...

Men

The first round of the Spring 36 hole stableford was played in glorious early Spring conditions with T shirts the required attire mid-round.

Winter Comp Rd 5 / Dukes Eclectic Rd 3

Ladies

Another reduction only round (QRO) for the ladies as the 10 who took to the field just avoided the new 2012 CONGU rules for 'small fields', or most of us would have got 0.1 back.

With the cold air and fairly muddy conditions underfoot, the ball wasn't running very much making scoring difficult for most, although there were several good front 9 scores that then collapsed on the back half. Veronica Mitchell just pipped Jayne Maxwell to take first place, both coming in with 34 points. Results...

After 3 rounds of the Duke's Eclectic, the scores are very close with 8 ladies within 5 shots of each other, leaving all to play for in the final round. The current leader is Sheena Harrington on net 76 followed by Val Riziotis one shot back on 77 and Cheryl Woodhouse, Maureen Slade and Lia Donath on 78. R3 Leader board...

Men

Mud caused variable bounce and greens pace was markedly variable so scoring suffered generally. But Nick Rogers was the decisive winner by one point on 39 from Matt Mandelbaum, Paul Appleton and Paul Doran. CSS was SSS +1, i.e. stableford SSS 38-1=37. Results... | Best scores...

22 January

Winter Comp Rd 4 / Princes Eclectic Rd 2

Ladies

For the second week running, the weather seemed to be the cause of some low scores for the ladies making it another reduction only day. Maureen Slade capped her hole-in-one on the 13th by winning today's competition by 1 point from Jayne & Val who both had 30 points. No doubt if Maureen hadn't aced the 13th she would have scored on the last 3 holes showing that the wind didn't affect everyone. Sadly she didn't see the ball into the hole as the green can't be seen from the tee - but it counts just the same. Congratulations Maureen. Results...

Men

The wind provided challenge for competitors but Rick Smith prevailed to win the 4th round of the winter competition on 42 points. A point behind were new member Roger Darkins and Jon Cooper. CSS remained at SSS 40 points. Seven ‘Twos’ were recorded – five on 13th. Results...

Winter Comp Rd 3 / Dukes Eclectic Rd 2

Ladies

The frozen ground and dazzling sun made for some interesting conditions as is reflected in the scores. The change in conditions from her holiday golf obviously didn't cause Cheryl too many problems though and she just pipped Maureen to win this round on the back 6. Both ladies scored 32 points resulting in a reduction only round for handicapping purposes. Results...
